Guwahati: Police busted illegal betting and gambling den, arrested gamblers in city

GUWAHATI: The ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 has become a hub for illegal gambling, with a section of people running betting rackets through mobile apps. Acting on a tip-off, an EGPD team from Basistha Police Station raided a flat at Lalmati Comfort Apartment, Jagaran Path, and busted an illegal betting and gambling den. Arrested betting gang members are Jakir Khan (27), Amin Rezaul Korim (23), Saiful Islam (25),  Mizanur Rahman (24), and Rafizul Rahaman (24).  Several items were seized. They are 14 ATM cards from various banks, 10 high-end mobile phones linked to betting apps, two vehicles – Hyundai i20 Sport & Pulsar RS200, and ICICI Bank cheque books and other incriminating materials. Meanwhile, in another operation, an EGPD team raided an illegal Teer gambling den at Balughat, leading to the arrest of Bishnu Sau (34) of Patarkuchi. Officials seized an OPPO 59 Android mobile, a Teer book, Rs 1,830 in cash, and a TVS Ntorq (AS01FF5919).
