GUWAHATI: To support farmers facing losses due to natural disasters or unforeseen events, the Government of India, under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been implementing the “Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana” (PMFBY). To further enhance its reach and benefits, the Agriculture Department has been distributing policies under the initiative “Meri Policy Mere Haath” since 2021. On Saturday, at Shaheed Bhawan in Mirza, Kamrup district, a public awareness program was organized by Bajaj Allianz General Insurance in collaboration with the Agriculture Department, where the policy distribution program for the Rabi season of 2024-25 was officially launched in the presence of Agriculture Minister Atul Bora. Under this initiative, farmers enrolled in PMFBY will now receive their insurance policies directly at their homes, panchayat offices, or designated locations.
During the awareness meeting, the Agriculture Minister highlighted that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government has prioritized the welfare of farmers through schemes like PMFBY.
He further stated that the Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been working tirelessly to bring revolutionary changes to the agricultural sector. He elaborated on the policies introduced under the Chief Minister’s strong leadership and the visible successes achieved. In his speech, he emphasized that the Chief Minister’s vision of making Assam one of the top five states in India can be realized through the overall development of the agricultural sector. The Minister also urged farmers to take advantage of the schemes launched by the central and state governments and to spread awareness about such initiatives among farmers in their respective regions.
As part of the programme, the Agriculture Minister distributed policies to 14 selected farmers. Additionally, he inaugurated a public seating area at Shaheed Bhawan to promote awareness of PMFBY and participated in a tree plantation drive. The event was attended by Agriculture Director Bhaskar Pegu, Agriculture Secretary Tej Prasad Bhusal, along with other dignitaries and a large number of farmers.
