GUWAHATI: The Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Guwahati, inaugurated its new charitable dispensary at Chatribari on December 26, 2024. The dispensary, which was inaugurated by Revered Swami Bodhasarananda ji Maharaj, assistant general secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math, West Bengal, aims to provide free medical services and medicines to the poor and needy. This initiative is guided by the Ramakrishna Mission’s core philosophy of “Service to man is service to God” and has been rendering services since 1988.

The new dispensary building is a result of the ashrama’s earnest endeavours to construct a sanctuary of care and well-being for the downtrodden and underprivileged. The inauguration ceremony was attended by a large number of devotees and well-wishers, including eminent doctors and senior executives from various organizations.

During the ceremony, Swami Bodhasarananda ji Maharaj commended the ashrama’s noble efforts in addressing the healthcare needs of the underserved. He emphasized the importance of selfless service and encouraged the gathering to involve themselves in the noble cause.

The dispensary has been providing free medical services and medicines to the poor and needy since 1988. In the year 2023-24, the dispensary treated 30,303 patients and distributed medicines free of cost. Eminent doctors from the city offer their services regularly to the dispensary on a voluntary basis.

The inauguration ceremony also saw the launch of a guest house for devotees. The occasion was graced by dignitaries such as Dr. Lakshmanan, Mission Director (NHM); Dr. Harsha Bhattacharjee, president, Sankardeva Netralaya; and senior executives from Numaligarh Refinery (NRL).
