Guwahati Refinery Plants 4,000 Saplings in New Year

GUWAHATI: As a mark of support to IndianOil’s relentless commitment towards the cause of environment protection and conservation, Guwahati Refinery began the New Year 2020 with an ‘Akira Miyawaki method of afforestation in Amingaon at Guwahati.

A total of 4000 saplings of around 48 species of indigenous plants were planted near the Saraighat lake in Amingaon in an attempt to build ‘the lungs of Guwahati City’. A large number of employees took part in the afforestation drive which was carried out in line with the ‘Think Green’ mission of Indian Oil.

The afforestation drive was carried out under the CSR initiatives of Guwahati Refinery and in collaboration with the district administration of Kamrup(Rural). Mr. Kamal Kumar Baishya, DC Kamrup and Mr. S. Manchanda, ED(GR), inaugurated the plantation drive at the location.

While appreciating the efforts of the Refinery towards increasing the green cover of the city through the plantation drive, Mr. Baishya expressed his desire to collaborate with the Refinery for similar future endeavours. He also urged the officials and the public to put in their efforts for maintenance of the plantation site and contributing towards clean and green environment.

Executive Director of Guwahati Refinery, Mr. Manchanda lauded the collaborative efforts of the employees and the officials of Kamrup district administration for their active participation and constant support throughout.

At the event, Dr. S. Dutta, Addl. Director of Central Pollution Control Board, North Eastern Region (NER),Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Govt. of India and a Technical Expert of the ”Akira Miyawaki Model” of afforestation, delivered a talk explaining the Miyawaki method of plantation and its relevance with the growing cityscape of Guwahati city. He also stressed upon the importance of planting trees and praised Guwahati Refinery’s initiatives for the noble cause.

The programme was also attended by Mr. D Kapoor, CGM(Projects), Mr. SP Baruah, CGM(TS & HSE), Mr. NK Chakraborty, CGM(T), Ms Anjana Baruah Sarma, CGM(HR),GMs, DGMs, and representatives from IOOA, GR unit and other employees of the Refinery along with officials from Kamrup district administration.
