GUWAHATI: The road connecting Railway Gate No 9 at Bharalumukh with the Sluice Gate has been closed for the next four to five months due to the ongoing flyover construction, resulting in significant traffic diversions and inconvenience to commuters.

According to the Public Works Department (PWD), a deep excavation is underway in the area, and heavy construction vehicles have been deployed at the site, prompting the authorities to shut down the road for public safety.

“There is a deep excavation going on in the area, and heavy construction vehicles have been deployed, so we have closed the road for the safety of the public. It will take four to five months to complete the excavation work,” said a senior PWD officer. “We have diverted the traffic to another route, and yes, the public is facing some issues, but that will be resolved soon. Till then we urge everyone to cooperate.”

As a result of the closure, traffic has been diverted to the route via Gate No. 8 through Kumarpara. However, the diversion has led to congestion and frustration among commuters and traffic personnel alike.

“The road was closed around four days back. It is causing a lot of trouble, as all the traffic is diverted towards Railway Gate Number 8,” said a traffic policeman deployed in the area. “We are also facing a lot of problems. All the vehicles coming from the Sluice Gate area have to use this route only, and we are constantly trying our best to ensure the public doesn’t face any problem.”

The authorities have requested the public to remain patient and cooperative during the construction period, assuring that the situation will be managed to the best extent possible. Regular updates are expected to be shared regarding the progress of the construction and traffic management plans.
