Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Sanjib Talukdar, one of the accused in the 2019 grenade blast case near Central Mall, Guwahati. The incident took place on May 15, 2019, when a grenade was hurled at a police party conducting vehicle checks on RG Baruah Road, injuring at least 12 people.
The case, originally registered at Geetanagar Police Station as Case No. 210/2019 under various sections of the IPC, the Explosive Substances Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), was later handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) by the Government of India on June 24, 2019.
Sanjib Talukdar was granted bail on the condition of furnishing a bail bond of Rs 1,00,000 with two sureties of equal amount to the satisfaction of the Special Judge, NIA, Assam.
The bail was granted with several other strict conditions, including mandatory appearance during trial dates, surrender of passport (if not already done), prohibition from intimidating or influencing witnesses, and a ban on leaving the court’s jurisdiction without prior permission. The court has also allowed the NIA to seek cancellation of bail if any of the conditions are violated.
