Guwahati: In a grim reflection of infrastructural neglect, the Satgaon Police Station under Guwahati’s Dispur constituency has been left nearly submerged following a fresh spell of intense rainfall. The heavy downpour has inundated the station premises, forcing police personnel to work in knee-deep water while braving serious operational and health hazards.
The flooding has not only crippled day-to-day functioning but also put official records and case files at risk, as water continues to seep into critical areas, including the barracks and administrative offices. Officers are reportedly struggling to safeguard important documents and evidence, even as they continue their duties under challenging and unsanitary conditions.
Visuals from the site paint a troubling picture—public servants wading through murky water, damaged infrastructure, and an apparent lack of disaster preparedness in a key law enforcement facility.
“This situation highlights the urgent need for improved infrastructure and flood resilience, particularly in public service buildings such as police stations,” a senior police official said on the condition of anonymity. “We’re doing our best, but the conditions are deteriorating rapidly.”
The ordeal faced by Satgaon Police Station has reignited calls for long-overdue upgrades to drainage systems and protective infrastructure in flood-prone zones of Guwahati. As monsoon intensifies, concerns continue to mount over the ability of the city’s institutions to function effectively during natural calamities.
