GUWAHATI: An East Guwahati Police District (EGPD) team from Dispur Police Station, acting on a tip-off, raided a dump yard in Guwahati's ABC area.

The scrapyard belonged to Saidul Islam who hails from Kalgachia in Assam's Barpeta district. The search operation led to the recovery of several stolen items that were found in the dump yard.

The cops seized five bell metal bowls and one brass glass; three large aluminium saucepans; three pressure cookers, a large aluminium gumla; seventeen pieces of copper wire; an aluminium bucket and 3 broken but usable aluminium buckets and two gas stoves.

Legal action has been initiated.

Meanwhile, earlier this week, acting on intelligence input, a team from Basistha PS and Jorabat OP apprehended two thieves near Jorabat Naka point within 24 hours. The accused were identified as Babu Boro (19) of Narengi Patharquarry, Noonmati, and Babul Saha (23) of Narengi Patharquarry, Noonmati.

The duo was intercepted while travelling in a stolen Tata Magic vehicle (AS-01/HC-7340) from the Noonmati area.

Police recovered 12 heavy iron bars used in railway tracks, two empty plastic oil drums used for stealing diesel from parked vehicles and a small cutter knife. The iron materials were stolen from Sector 1 and the recovered plastic oil drums were used to steal diesel.
