GUWAHATI: The GMC Hostel Road, a vital link connecting Christian Basti, Ganeshguri, and Gauhati Medical College, remains in a dire state, sparking anger among locals and commuters. Rampant waterlogging, incomplete construction, and sluggish progress have disrupted daily life and fuelled allegations of mismanagement and corruption.
Residents claim that the project, which was slated for completion within a year, has barely seen 10% progress, despite 95% of the timeline having elapsed. A local resident lamented, "The contractor was supposed to finish the job in one year. Less than 10% of the work has been done, and the road remains riddled with water leakage. There have been numerous accidents, yet no one seems to care."
"There are only a few labourers working on this long stretch of road. How can they possibly complete the work on time with such a small workforce?" the resident questioned, pointing to poor planning and execution.
The road's deteriorated condition poses significant safety risks, especially for pedestrians and two-wheeler riders. Commuters have reported frequent accidents and challenges navigating the waterlogged and uneven road.
Residents of the area are demanding an immediate investigation into the alleged mismanagement and corruption associated with the project. They have also urged the authorities to expedite the construction and ensure the deployment of sufficient resources to complete the roadwork.
