Guwahati: The Six Mile and Borbari junctions continue to be traffic congestion hotspots, exposing severe flaws in the city's traffic management system. Despite functional infrastructure and traffic lights, these junctions frequently witness chaos, posing risks to both motorists and pedestrians.

The junctions, critical to Guwahati's traffic network, connect major routes but are plagued by irregular management. Although traffic lights are installed, they are often switched off, forcing traffic police to manage vehicles manually. A traffic official admitted the issue, stating, "Manual navigation is needed as vehicle flow doesn't match signal timers. Lights are only used during low traffic."

This inconsistent system has turned these areas into danger zones for pedestrians, who face significant risks due to vehicles converging from multiple directions. Residents have expressed frustration over long delays, frequent collisions, and the absence of traffic personnel during peak hours. Experts suggest adaptive traffic lights, pedestrian crossings, and consistent enforcement as necessary reforms. Without urgent action, Guwahati's growing traffic demands risk worsening the daily commute for thousands of residents.
