Guwahati Traffic Police to Resume White Uniform from August 16

Guwahati: The Guwahati Traffic Police will once again don their iconic white uniforms starting August 16, 2025, following an official order issued on Friday.

According to the order, the move is aimed at enhancing operational efficiency, ensuring uniformity across the state, and reinstating a distinct identity for the city’s traffic personnel. The decision was finalised after a detailed review of field conditions, functional needs, and feedback from various stakeholders, including police personnel, road safety experts, and members of the public.

The white uniform, long associated with traffic management in Guwahati, is seen as a symbol of visibility, approachability, and professionalism. Authorities believe the shift will make traffic police more easily recognisable on the city’s crowded streets while boosting discipline and public trust.

In its appeal, the Guwahati Traffic Police urged citizens to cooperate with traffic personnel, as the city steps up efforts to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and ensure smooth and orderly movement of vehicles.
