Guwahati: In a major citizen-centric initiative aimed at road safety and service accessibility, the Transport Department of Assam will observe the month of July as “Total Service Month.” The initiative seeks to streamline transport-related services while fostering awareness and accessibility, especially for students and key professional groups.
Under the supervision of Special Duty Officer Gautam Das, the Kamrup Metropolitan District Transport Office will implement the month-long programme to ensure seamless delivery of transport services. The initiative includes on-the-spot redressal of vehicle documentation and tax-related issues for teachers, doctors, lawyers, journalists, and senior citizens—groups often unable to access services due to professional obligations.
A major highlight of the campaign is free driving training for students—from HS-passed to postgraduate level—during the academic break. The training will be provided in collaboration with the Honda Safety Driving Education Centre using simulators, aiming to empower students to independently secure driving licenses. Sessions will begin from July 1, and students can report at 9 am on working days at the DTO campus in Betkuchi.
While over 57 online, touchless transport services are currently available, the department acknowledges that not all citizens are able to utilize them due to technical or personal limitations. To bridge this gap, a special team will be assigned to provide doorstep services to eligible individuals upon request.
A senior official noted that, under the guidance of the Chief Minister, the state has also introduced randomized services across districts—allowing vehicle owners from any part of Assam to resolve issues like license renewal, ownership transfer, and other documentation matters without jurisdictional constraints.
