Guwahati: Two persons lost their lives in a tragic road accident that took place on Thursday evening in Lalmati near Games Village, involving a dumper, two scooters, and two four-wheelers. The incident has prompted a joint investigation by the Transport Department, Traffic Police, and the National Highways Authority of India.

The deceased have been identified as Raja Roy (30), a resident of Dhubri currently residing in Rukminigaon, and Mridul Deka (40) also from Rukminigaon.

According to police, five vehicles were involved in the crash—a dumper, a Maruti Swift, a Toyota Fortuner, and two scooters. The accident occurred when one of the scooters attempted a U-turn from Lokhra Road. The victims, who were riding the second scooter, were heading from Games Village towards the U-turn when the crash occurred.

DCP (East) said, “Two persons were taken to GMCH immediately after the accident, where they were declared dead. We have registered a case, seized the dumper, and taken the driver into custody. A crash investigation team is examining the matter.”

Eyewitnesses and sources reported that the dumper, bearing registration number AS25 FC 1985, was moving at high speed when it first hit a four-wheeler before ramming into the two scooters—AS01 DP 7265 and AS01 FE 8997. Whether the dumper had valid legal documents is still under investigation. Further inquiries are underway.
