Guwahati: Safety concerns in the city are no longer confined to women alone, even men are falling victim to cunning and organized crimes. In a shocking incident near the bustling Ganeshguri locality, a young man from Tinsukia was allegedly lured, threatened at knifepoint, and robbed by two women.
The victim, Sahil Basfor, had come to Guwahati for some work. On the night of the incident, he went out for a stroll in the Ganeshguri area when he was approached by a woman, later identified as Janmoni Begum of Mangaldai. Posing seductively, she enticed him with a proposal to spend the night together.
As he followed her, another woman joined them, introducing herself as Manju Malhotra. However, she was later found to be Amina Begum, an accomplice of Janmoni. Once the two had gained his trust and led him to a secluded area, they brandished a dao and threatened to kill him.
When Sahil tried to flee, the duo allegedly created a public commotion by screaming, forcing him to stop in fear of being misjudged by the crowd. Taking advantage of the situation, they looted Rs 18,000 from him after issuing death threats.
The victim later filed an FIR at Dispur Police Station. A team from Dispur Police launched an investigation and successfully arrested both women. The stolen money was also recovered during the operation. Deputy Commissioner of Police (East), Guwahati, Mrinal Deka, confirmed the incident.
