GUWAHATI: A persistent water pipe leakage at NS Road at Fatasil has been causing public frustration due to the Guwahati Jal Board’s (GJB) seemingly delayed response. The leak, first reported by a local resident, has been going on for several days, drawing criticism from commuters and nearby residents. “The situation has remained the same for the past two days. No repairs have been done yet,” said a resident, highlighting the lack of action from the concerned authorities.
A resident named Lata Baroah said, “Continuous seepage of water onto the main road has not only inconvenienced daily traffic but also raised concerns about potential damage to the road surface and long-term infrastructure decay.”
In response to public concerns, a GJB official told this reporter, “There is no need to worry. We have engineers deployed at that location. As the Narakasur-Sonaighuli connection needs to be commissioned, flushing has been going on. The road repairs will be done by the Public Works Department (PWD).”
Residents argue that even if technical flushing is required, proper communication and timely road restoration should be non-negotiable. With increasing incidents of unattended leaks followed by long delays in road repairs, many believe this reflects a deeper issue of poor coordination between GJB and PWD.
The PWD, which is responsible for the final restoration of the road, has yet to provide a timeline for the necessary repairs.
