Guwahati Witnesses 1,030 Fatal Road Accidents In 4 Years

GUWAHATI: How safe is traffic in Guwahati? The situation seems grim when a total of 247 fatal cases are reported in 2018 alone. The alarmingly number of road accidents have been taking many lives, particularly of youths with bright future, and it is the high time that all sections of the society take it seriously to reduce these types of road accidents so that the precious lives of our future generation could be saved at any cost.

Believe it or not, according to reports, a total of 1112 cases were registered of people killed in road accidents in the past four years. During the year 2018, in the National Highway, a total of 518 cases were registered, out of which 157 were fatal, 167 killed, 332 injured, while in the State Highway, a total of 343 cases were registered, out of which 67 were fatal, 68 killed, 279 injured, and in other road accidents, a total of 190 cases were registered, out of which 23 were fatal, 23 killed, 164 injured. That sums up to a total of 1051 cases registered, out of which 247 were fatal, 258 killed and 775 injured, in 2018.

During the year 2017, in the National Highway, a total of 430 cases were registered, out of which 155 were fatal, 170 killed, 302 injured, while in the State Highway, a total of 352 cases were registered, out of which 66 were fatal, 69 killed, 303 injured, and in other road accidents, a total of 195 cases were registered, out of which 35 were fatal, 40 killed, 150 injured. That sums up to a total of 977 cases registered, out of which 256 were fatal, 279 killed and 755 injured, in 2017.

During the year 2016, in the National Highway, a total of 417 cases were registered, out of which 134 were fatal, 145 killed, 272 injured, while in the State Highway, a total of 401 cases were registered, out of which 93 were fatal, 95 killed, 329 injured, and in other road accidents, a total of 224 cases were registered, out of which 31 were fatal, 32 killed, 220 injured. That sums up to a total of 1042 cases registered, out of which 258 were fatal, 272 killed and 821 injured, in 2016.

During the year 2015, in the National Highway, a total of 482 cases were registered, out of which 152 were fatal, 178 killed, 461 injured, while in the State Highway, a total of 414 cases were registered, out of which 74 were fatal, 77 killed, 388 injured, and in other road accidents, a total of 260 cases were registered, out of which 43 were fatal, 48 killed, 222 injured. That sums up to a total of 1156 cases registered, out of which 269 were fatal, 303 killed and 1071 injured, in 2015.

Accounting the four years, a total of 4226 cases were registered, out of which 1030 were fatal, 1112 killed, and 3422 injured from 2015-2018. As such, strictly adhering to the traffic rules and making it a part of life is the only solution for minimizing the road accidents and extreme caution should be exercised by the drivers and commuters at all times while on the road.
