Guwahati: Woman found dead under suspicious circumstances in her apartment at Nizarapar

Guwahati: A shocking discovery was made in the early hours of January 1, when the body of 25-year-old Payel Saikia was found under suspicious circumstances in her rental apartment in Nizarapar, Guwahati.

According to reports, Payel’s body was discovered in the H4 block of the fourth floor of Doya Sagar Apartment, where she had been living alone. Her mother, who had been trying to reach her by phone, alerted the apartment’s security personnel when she couldn’t get through. The security team broke open the door to find Payel hanging, and the Chandmari police were immediately notified.

The police recovered Payel’s body at around 1 am and have since launched a detailed investigation into the case. They have obtained the call detail records (CDR) of Payel’s mobile phone, which they hope will provide crucial leads in the case. The possibility of homicide being disguised as suicide has not been ruled out, and officials have stated that clarity will only emerge after the post-mortem report is finalized. Payel’s decision to live alone in a rented apartment, despite having a family home in the city, has raised questions about her personal life.
