GUWAHATI: In a shocking case reported from Guwahati, a 20-year-old woman from Assam's Karbi Anglong has accused two men of gang-raping her at a hotel on the night of Shivratri. The police have detained two suspects identified as Chandan Mahanta, the proprietor of ABC Grill Junction and his staff member going by the name of Rohan Ali.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Amitabh Basumatary, the victim lodged her complaint at 9 PM on the night of the festival. She claimed that the accused had offered her and a friend drinks laced with alcohol and cannabis. While the friend declined to join them, the accused persuaded the victim to accompany them to Rashmi Hotel in Rajgarh.

Once at the hotel, the victim was allegedly forced to consume more alcohol before being raped by both men. DCP Basumatary detailed that the victim had initially requested to return to her hostel, but the accused insisted it was too late and promised to drop her off in the morning.

The two suspects have been identified by the police and are in custody as a thorough investigation is initiated. The authorities have promised that they are determined to take strong action against the criminals involved in such crimes.

DCP Basumatary mentioned a serious trend where numerous young rural women approach the city with dreams of a prosperous future but end up being victims of exploitation.
