Hitendra Nath Goswami Urged To Take Action Against Prasanta Phukan

GUWAHATI: Leader of the Opposition Debabrata Saikia on Thursday wrote to the Speaker of Assam Assembly Hitendra Nath Goswami demanding appropriate action against the MLA Prasanta Phukan for his alleged derogatory comment on the Muslim community in the State.

Prasanta Phukan, the BJP MLA from Dibrugarh unequivocally termed the Muslim community of Assam as “cows that do not yield milk” because according to him, 90 per cent of the community did not vote for the BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. “Phukan also stated that the government should not work for the welfare of the Muslims because there is no benefit in providing fodder to cows that do not yield milk,” Saikia said in his letter.

Saikia accused Prasanta Phukan of publicly singling out the Muslims of Assam and denigrated them as unproductive cattle. He urged the Speaker to examine remarks of Phukan and take appropriate action.
