GUWAHATI: Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal travelled by city bus from Down Town bus stand to Kachari this morning to take stock of traffic management in Guwahati. He found traffic congestion and prolonged halt at bus stops.
The Government is trying to streamline traffic management in Guwahati and to smoothen the transportation system. The minister held two meetings with the Transport Department, City Police and other officials yesterday and took several important decisions.
During today's city bus travel, Singhal also visited the municipal market at Paltan Bazar and took stock of its infrastructure and cleanliness. He interacted with the traders in the market and took stock of their problems. He urged the traders to keep their shops and market premises clean and healthy.
Talking to reporters at the Ganeshguri bus station, Singhal said that as a public representative, it is his primary duty to access the real-life journey of people.
Singhal said that buses face a lot of traffic congestion in many areas. He also saw problems like prolonged halting at bus stops.
Stating that women and young passengers also informed him about various problems they are facing during the bus journey, he said that he would take necessary measures in consultation with the Transport Department to resolve such problems.
Similarly, the semi-constructed market houses under the municipal corporation will also be over soon.
