GUWAHATI: How safe is Guwahati? The police recovered over dozens of unidentified bodies in the city in the past three months. Such recoveries of unidentified bodies are taking place in Guwahati when Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is asking the police to curb crimes in the state.

The state registered an increase in murder cases - from 1131 in 2020 to 1192 in 2021. From January to July this year, Guwahati Police registered 37 murder cases. The police recovered ten bodies in August alone this year.

During the Durga Puja in October, the police recovered many unidentified bodies. However, the reasons for death mostly remain unknown.

Top police officials said that the investigation suffers setbacks in the case of unidentified bodies. "Following the directive of police, we are trying our best to curb crimes in the state," a police official said.
