GUWAHATI: The authority of ILA Snehalaya CCI (Child Care Institution), Betkuchi, has appealed to the State Government to construct a half-km long road for the CCI.

Talking to The Sentinel, Sister Arkanjela of ILA Snehalaya CCI said, "Snehalaya (Home of Love) is a registered Trust which has five homes in Guwahati city. ILA Snehalaya at Paltan Bazar and Dhirenpara are homes for boys and ILA Snehalaya at Beltola and Noonmati are homes for girls. The headquarters of Snehalaya is in Paltan Bazar."

ILA Snehalaya in Betkuchi is situated behind the Balaji Temple. This CCI was started in November 2004, and is managed by the Fatima sisters, along with eight other residential staff. "The total capacity of the CCI is 35 boys but at present due to the COVID-19 lockdown, we have 20 boys between 6-13 years of age and eight residential staff. The boys are provided with their basic needs like food, shelter, clothes, medical care, education, counselling and opportunities for developing their hidden talents," she said. ILA Snehalaya is registered under the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection of Children Act, 2015, she added.

"Unfortunately, the CCI does not have a proper road. Earlier this house was the Brahmaputra Society TB Rehabilitation Centre for TB patients. The road from Bathou Mandir is kutcha with potholes here and there. People find it difficult to come to the CCI because of the poor road condition. To shop for daily items, take the children to hospital and other works, we need a proper concrete road. Hence, we sent a letter to the Chief Minister today, appealing him to look into the matter so that this home which shelters marginalized children can get a proper road," said Sister Arkanjela.
