GUWAHATI: Is Guwahati turning into a destination for criminals? A few rackets busted recently make one to think that way.

Acting on a tip off a mobile theft case (79/2021), Hatigaon Police busted a mobile theft racket at Changsari in Kamrup district on Saturday.

During the raid, Hatigaon police arrested three youths, all hailing from Sahibganj in Jharkhand. The three have been identified as Moten Ansari (32), Edul Sheikh (19) and Tajbir Sheikh (41). The police recovered as many as 32 stolen mobile sets from the gang. The mobile sets have been stolen from various areas of Guwahati.

A few days back, two youths from Katihar in Bihar – Sonu Kumar Yadav and Raju Kumar Yadav – did snatch a bag containing Rs 3 lakh from a petrol depot at Beltola. While one of the two was arrested, the other is still absconding.

What's significant is that Sonu Kumar confessed before the police that they had come to Guwahati only to loot people here. The case of the Jharkhand trio seems no different.
