GUWAHATI: Demanding a whitepaper from the Chief Minister regarding the Rs. 4,141 crore announced for Hindustan Paper Corporation, JACRU (Joint Action Committee of Recognized Unions) Nagaon & Cachar Paper Mills stated that ‘there is no reason to believe Modi-Sonowal governments in any matter related to Assam’.

Addressing a press conference at Guwahati Press Club on Monday JACRU president Manobendra Chakraborty claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had betrayed the people of Assam by disrespecting his own commitment to revive the industries on March 27, 2016. JACRU alleged that both the Prime Minister and Chief Minister had misused their power by destroying both the industries and source of employment of two lakh youths.

Chakraborty further demanded a whitepaper from the Chief Minister regarding utilization of the fund of Rs. 4,141 crore. He said, “On July 9th the Union Minister of Heavy Industries disclosed in the Parliament that a fund of Rs. 4141 crore has been invested in HPC from 2014-15 to 2018. But during this period both the paper mills were closed and as of now 60 workers and employees have died due to nonpayment of salary for the last 36 months. So, we demand the Chief Minister to publish a whitepaper on the Rs. 4141 crore.”

The union claimed that it is a blatant complete lie and Minister Chandra Mohan Patowari misled the Assam Assembly by saying that Rs 1,900 crore was to be released, but because of a case filed by a contractor at NCLT the fund could not be released.

Also paying homage and tribute to martyrs killed in the fight against CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) in the press meet, JACRU said that they are in support in all kinds of struggles to save the interest of Assam, its heritage, culture and employment.
