GUWHATI: After submitting a memorandum to the Chief Minister seeking death penalty, the All Assam Jyoti Kendra Siksha Karmi Santha (AAJKSK) raised the demand for a discussion with Dispur before August 15.

Addressing a press meet at Guwahati Press Club on Wednesday, the Santha said, "We've already submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, Education Minister and Mission Director seeking death penalty. But, before they give us death penalty, we want a discussion with them where they'll have to answer certain questions."

"We should get the answer as to how much qualification is required to be a primary teacher? Is teaching experience meaningless in terms of teacher appointment? Do the Sikshakarmiss who worked under Sarbasiksha Abhijan Mission hold no criteria to be a teacher? Are the Siksha Karmis untouchable for the teaching community and if the service given by Siksha Karmis can be termed as good work, why then they're deprived of their deserved remuneration?" the Santha questioned.

The Santha further questioned as to whether it is a sin to ask for recognition for the works that one does. The Santha threatened that if the government takes no initiative, the Siksha Karmis will be bound to take any kind of action and the government, along with the Education department, will be responsible for it.

Santha president Munmun Chetiya said, "For the last 18 years we've been serving to educate those children who can't attend school as they remain engaged in different types of labour works. We've gained lots of experience in these 18 years. We're deprived of our rights due to a conspiracy hatched by a few officials as they have the fear to get exposed if we sit for a discussion with the government. We've lost a lot of things. We're mentally broken. We need a permanent solution or else we are ready for death penalty."
