Karbi Students’ Union Stage Demonstration in Dimoria

DIMORIA: The Central Committee of Karbi Students’ Union on Monday staged a sit-in demonstration at its office in Sonapur Revenue Circle demanding inclusion of Karbis in plains in the list of Scheduled Tribe (ST).

The union also submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal citing its various demands, through an official of the Sonapur Revenue Circle. The memorandum demanded allotment of land patta to ethnic people living in Dimoria and granting of constitutional safeguard to the Tiwa Autonomous Council and administrative autonomy to Karbis living in plains.

More than 500 people participated in the sit-in demonstration. Speaking on the occasion general secretary of Karbi Students’ Union Arun Teron said that in the recent years the governments at Dispur only gave assurances and made promises to solve various issues of ethnic people living in Dimoria. He said no government was serious and sincere to solve the issues.
