GUWAHATI: The Yuva Morcha of the LDP (Left Democratic Party) came down heavily on the BJP-led government in Assam for, what it said, its failure to control floods in the State.

In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, the Morcha said that the situation has become increasingly dire and uncontrollable from Sadia to Dhubri. "Almost every district in Assam is now under water. More than 3.5 million people in 26 districts of the State have become homeless. These people have not received adequate assistance from the government. It seems Government's promises and announcements are confined to paper only, but there is no step taken to implement these plans further.

"There is no government help or administration in the flood-hit areas. In addition, lack of animal feed and shelter has resulted in loss of a large number of livestock. We cannot stop natural disasters but at least we can forearm ourselves with the onset of monsoon and can save thousands of lives if we want," said Ashrini Borah, media assistant secretary, Yuva morcha in a press release.

Chandrapal Baruah, president of Yuva Morcha, has sharply criticized the government for its reckless and 'irresponsible' actions in the face of the cries of the people and thousands of animals.
