GUWAHATI: Representatives of five left parties met in the District Library Complex of Guwahati on Tuesday at a convention aimed at uniting against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the State.
Deben Bhattacharjya of CPI (M), Munin Mahanta of CPI, Rubul Sharma of CPI (M-L) and Phooleswar Basumatary of RCPI and Dr Haren Borgohain of Forward Block took the responsibility to preside over the convention together. It saw the participation of over 1,000 participants from various districts of the State.
The state secretary of CPI (M), Suprakash Talukdar started the discussion with topics related to the financial, social and political environment of the State. They also discussed the handing over of the management of resources of the State to private parties and the increase in the loans taken by the State. Topics including rising prices of essential commodities like vegetables, edible oil, staple crops etc. were also discussed in the meeting.
The unemployment problem of the State along with the problems regarding electricity bills also came up in this discussion and so did the flood problem and the issues faced by the tea garden workers. The gathering took the resolution to protest against the proposed shifting of the courts to North Guwahati during this meeting and mount a united opposition against the BJP. They also decided to stage a joint protest against the hike in prices of essential commodities across all districts of the State on July 15.
