Malaria Technical Supervisors (MTSs) demand pay parity

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Malaria Technical Supervisors (MTSs), a post held by science graduates, rue the fact that their remuneration is much lower than those of Surveillance Workers (SWs) held by HS-passed candidates and cleaners of NHM, Assam held by VIII-passed candidates. The workers of all these posts have been engaged in the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Pragramme (NVBDCP).

The fact remains that science degree holding MTSs get Rs 12,000 per month against Rs 15,000 per month by HS-passed SWs and Rs 16,000 month by VIII-passed cleaners – all working in the same programme since 2008.

Apart from supervising malaria, MTSs have been engaged in duties like JE (Japanese Encephalitis), AES (Acute Encephalitis Syndrome), Dengue, Fileria etc. Raising the gross disparity in their pay structure with that of SWs and cleaners the MTSs have urged the State Health and Family Welfare Minister to pay them salaries on the basis of equal pay, equal work as is the case with the SSA.
