GUWAHATI: The Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha (ACMS), on Saturday, alleged that many tea workers have not yet received an amount of Rs. 500 from the government as assistance in view of the corona outbreak.

ACMS executive member Lankeswar Tanti stated that, “Around 20 lakh tea workers work under 1.5 lakh tea farmers in the State. These small tea gardens contribute around 50 percent of the total tea production of the State. Since March 23, these gardens are closed and recently after following the government’s guidelines some of the gardens have been reopened. The State government has provided financial assistance to some of the workers but many of them are yet to receive the funds. Many workers have reached out to me and complained about not receiving the funds. Most of the workers are from Moran town.”

Further, Tanti appealed to the government to provide the financial assistance to the remaining workers as they are in deprived state.
