Massive development push by BJP-led alliance government in upper Assam

Guwahati: “The BJP-led alliance government in Assam, under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, has ushered in a new era of development across Upper Assam. Over the past nine years, and particularly since 2021, the region has witnessed rapid progress through focused investments, robust infrastructure projects, and welfare schemes,” claimed state BJP.

In a statement state BJP spokesperson Subhash Dutta said, “From 2021 to 2025, districts like Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Sivasagar, Jorhat, Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, and Golaghat have seen significant transformation.”

Dutta highlighted the key projects – Rs 1,650 crore Jorhat Greenfield Airport, the Majuli–Jorhat Bridge (72% completed), and Rs 110-crore Inter-State Bus Terminal in Dibrugarh. The Rs 690-crore Bogibeel Bridge road upgrade and Rs 370 crore East-West Corridor in Golaghat also stand out.

“In health, AIIMS Assam (Changsari) has introduced reserved seats for Upper Assam students, while cancer care facilities have expanded in Jorhat and Dibrugarh. Education and skill development saw Rs 22 crore in research grants, 52 smart classrooms, and new model colleges and ITI upgrades,” Dutta said.

Dutta further said, “The tea and agriculture sector has benefited through Tea Mission 2.0, and a Rs154-crore welfare distribution for tea workers. The region is also set to become a major industrial and export hub with projects like the Rs 1,240 crore Duliajan Mega Hub and 15 export hubs in Tinsukia.”
