GUWAHATI: The campaign for clean environment has metamorphosed into various forms, and Assam is not lagging behind in this area.

Meet this mime artiste, Minangka Deka. He is a green crusader. He has been campaigning for protecting the Deepor Beel for the past one year. When words fail to get the desired results in fighting environmental pollution in the State, he has opted to a voiceless medium – popularly known as the art of mime in which the State has a reputation of its own.

One of his themes reads ‘challo picnic dhyan se’. His placard messages read ‘carry a dustbin instead of a DSLR to the picnic spot to carry garbage; don’t throw liquor bottles in the river, but bring them back to store edible oil in them; click selfies with the rivers and make them popular, but don’t pollute them with plastics; get your picnic spot cleaned before leaving it” etc. Minangka hopes that such a campaign will make picnic goers not to litter picnic spots and clean them before leaving for home. In 2018, Minangka and his troupe did perform a mime play at Deepor Beel on environmental issues. The troupe is ready to stage such performances this year as well.
