Move to revive plan for bus & Truck terminus in Guwahati

ALARMING TRAFFIC CONGESTION

STAFF REPORTER

GUWAHATI: Faced with the alarming increase in traffic congestion in the city, the Kamrup district administration, and DTO, Kamrup has revived their old plan to construct inter-state bus and truck terminus at Amingaon and Baihata Chariali respectively.

The bus terminus plan was first mooted way back in 2016 by the then DTO of Kamrup Gautam Das. He moved the plan to the State Government through the deputy commissioner of Kamrup. The DC had prepared the plan to construct the terminus at a plot measuring seven bighas at Amingaon and submitted the same to the Land Advisory Board of Kamrup. The board approved and passed the proposal.

In 2016, chairman of Land Advisory Board of Kamrup and cabinet minister Himanta Biswa Sarma asked the DC of Kamrup to work out a plan to construct an inter-state truck terminus at Baihata Chariali. DC accordingly chalked the plan through the Public Work Department.

The total cost of bus and truck terminus was estimated to be Rs 27.5 crore. Even though the plans were chalked out in 2016, they were lying in limbo till recently when the Kamrup District Development Coordination & Monitoring Committee decided to revive the same. A recent meeting of the committee attended by Guwahati MP Queen Ojha, Mangaldoi MP Dilip Saikia, DC Kamal Baishya and DTO, Kamrup Gautam Das decided to start execution of the plans as early as possible. The earlier proposal mooted by Gautam Das was placed before the recent meeting. The meeting accepted the proposal and decided to take up with the government for execution.
