GUWAHATI: The Axomiya Muslim Parisad and the Axom Goriya Parishad expressed their support for the proposed delimitation draft published by the Election Commission of India and mentioned that this process will help the constituencies as well as the state of Assam. The organisations announced their support for the draft at a joint press conference attended by the president of the Asomiya Muslim Parisad, Rahmasha Ali, and the president of the Axom Goriya Parisad, Abdul Hamid.

The presidents maintained that the proposed delimitation process will allow the new voters to take active part in the electoral process, while the elected representatives will face strict competition. They also added that it will make way for the proper political representation of the indigenous people of the state, adding that people of some communities will no longer be able to treat certain constituencies as their paternal property.

They also added that it has come to their attention that some organisations have been using the names of indigenous Muslims in the state for their personal gains and protesting against the proposed delimitation, adding that these organisations are trying to divert the attention of the public in the wrong direction. Making it clear that this process will not do any harm to the indigenous Muslims, they said that a few elected representatives from the community will not be able to ensure their protection.

The presidents also called on the chief minister to ensure proper education and their socio-economic development and not to include the Assamese Muslims, Sayeds, and Goriyas in the same group as the Miyas, Moriyas, and Desi. They also mentioned that they will be writing letters of support to the Election Commission of India in regard to this matter.
