GUWAHATI: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) organised its 2nd National GST Symposium in the city. The symposium was inaugurated by CA. Ranjeet Kumar Agarwal, Vice-President, ICAI on 20th January, 2024. 

The Symposium was organised exclusively for the GST Officials of Central Tax, State Tax and Union Territory Tax.  The Symposium brought the Central Tax, State Tax and the Union Territory Tax Officers on one platform to foster synergy, discussions, exchange of ideas, flag issues and brainstorm resolutions. 

More than 60 high-ranking officers including Chief Commissioners, Commissioners, Additional Commissioners, Joint Commissioners from twenty-two States (22) participated in the Symposium.  Senior officers from GSTN also participated in the Symposium.

In the symposium, deliberation on the topic Harnessing Technology: Widening Tax Base & Enhancing Taxpayer Services was taken by Shri Dheeraj Rastogi, EVP, Goods & Services Tax Network.  The panel discussion on Recent Trends in GST Demands & Adjudication was deliberated by Shri Sadhu Narsimha Reddy, Commissioner, CGST, Tirupati, Shri T V Ravi, Commissioner, CGST, Agartala, Shri Ruchin Gupta, Commissioner (Appeals), CGST, Guwahati, Shri Rajan Dutt, Commissioner, CGST, Panchkula and Shri Rajiv Garg, Additional Director General, DGGI, Guwahati, and was moderated by CA. Sushil Kumar Goyal, Chairman, GST & Indirect Taxes Committee.

Further, the panel discussion on “Scope for Revenue Augmentation: State Government’s Perspective” was deliberated by Shri Girija Shankar, Chief Commissioner of State Tax, Andhra Pradesh, Ms. Rakhi Biswas, Chief Commissioner of State Tax, Tripura, Shri Manoj Rai, Commissioner, Commercial Taxes, Sikkim, Shri Mohd. Mansoor, Commissioner of State Tax, Puducherry and Shri R. Zosiamliana, Commissioner of State Tax, Mizoram and was moderated by CA. Umesh Sharma, Vice-Chairman, GST & Indirect Taxes Committee. CA. Sushil Kumar Goyal & CA. Umesh Sharma highlighted the role of Chartered Accountants and ICAI in the implementation of GST, stated a press release.
