NDRF organizes check-up and treatment camp for animals in Barpeta district

GUWAHATI: The 1st Battalion NDRF Veterinary team participated in Village animal health check up and treatment camp in flood affected areas in Satrakamra village under Baghbar revenue circle of Barpeta district on Tuesday.

The camp was jointly organized by Veterinary Emergency Response Unit (VERU) East Zone, College of Veterinary Science, AAU Guwahati and The West Milk Producers, Cooperative Union Limited (WAMUL) in collaboration with World Animal Protection (WAP).

According to a release, Dr Tej Bahadur Singh DC/SVO along with Veterinary Nursing Assistant staff of NDRF & representatives from VERU carried out health check up of 1,232 animals (Buffalo-21, Goats-273, Poultry-168 and Cattle- 770). During the camp animals were treated for Hump Shore, Anorexia, Diarrhea, Cough, Fever Gastritis , Bloat, etc.

A team of veterinarians screened the livestock for a range of diseases and medical advices were given to farmers for regular de-worming and vaccination against various diseases. Besides, NDRF Veterinary team gave guidance on management of animals during flood season, care and management during pregnancies of animals & rearing of calf. More such camps are planned in various flood affected districts of Assam i.e Darrang, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Jorhat, Golaghat, Sibsagar, Goalpara, Nagaon and Morigaon in the month of September. The locals appreciated the initiative of 1ST Battalion NDRF who has provided much needed relief to their animals.
