GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has said that the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will go in vain in the absence of educational infrastructures in sync with it.

In a statement issued to the media on Thursday, the students' body said, "We did take experts' views on the draft NEP. A seminar on the draft NEP did say that a dream for development in education was shown. There was opinion against the draft NEP in the country. There were over 2 lakh objections to the draft from State governments, organizations and individuals. However, the policy adopted by the government has made it clear that people's opinions have not been given due importance. The policy will widen the gap between private and government schools. The policy tends to centralize education in a federal country."

AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurin Jyoti said that without educational infrastructure if the NEP 2020 is imposed the results can't be fruitful. "Adequate funds for the NEP 2020 should be given to the States for its proper implementation," the statement said.
