New-Look Rabindra Bhawan To Reopen In Mid-September

GUWAHATI: Rabindra Bhawan, Guwahati that has been closed for renovation since October 2017 is going to be reopened in mid-September this year with a new look – with state-of-the art sound system, seating arrangements etc. The State PWD started the renovation work of the auditorium under the Directorate of Cultural Affairs in February 2018.

Talking to The Sentinel, Director of Cultural Affairs, Assam Bishnu Kamal Bora said: “The auditorium was supposed to be opened in March this year. However, now we hope to reopen the auditorium for public in mid-September this year. The renovation work had an original budget of Rs 5 crore that has escalated to Rs 8 crore. Ninety per cent of the work is over, and the remaining ten per cent is set to be completed by the first week of September. The renovated works include sanitation facilities, a state-of-the-art stage and state-of-the-art lighting and sound systems. However, the capacity of the auditorium has been reduced to 610 – 272 in the balcony and 338 on the ground – from 739 seats earlier.”
