GUWAHATI: On January 30, 2021, the Education Department regularized the jobs of 1,500 contractual teachers in primary schools. However, to date, they have not received their salaries. In this regard, they have demanded the Education Minister's intervention to provide salaries to the distressed tutors.

"The legality of the appointment of around 12,000 teachers of that State who were appointed 25-27 years ago was being questioned. Later, the Sonowal government formed a scanning committee to examine the legality of the jobs. Based on a report of the scanning committee, the government reappointed 1,500 teachers as tutors on January 30. The responsibility to provide salaries to the tutors was given to the Block Elementary Education Office (BEEO). But the BEEO has not been able to provide salaries to the tutors," the Santha stated.
