GUWAHATI: Passenger safety and comfort is one of the major thrust areas of the Northeast Frontier (NF) Railway. As an initiative to improve passenger safety and comfort, NF Railway has taken major steps by replacing the existing conventional rakes with LHB rakes design rakes.
The LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) coaches have been designed for improved passenger safety. LHB coaches are manufactured with anti-collision technology which causes less fatalities during accidents, stated a press release. These coaches are made of light-weight, low corrosive stainless steel and have higher carrying capacity, speed potential, and better safety features as compared to ICF coaches. The interiors are made of aluminium which makes them lighter when compared to the conventional rakes. Each coach also has an 'Advanced Pneumatic Disc Brake System' for efficient braking at higher speeds, 'Modular Interiors' that integrate lighting into the ceiling and luggage racks and wider windows.
During 2021-22, seven trains of NF Railway were converted from ICF to LHB. Thus, a total of 40 trains originating from NF Railway are now converted into LHB and are running with high speed and modern LHB coaches that provide more comfort and safety to the passengers.
The hydraulic shock absorber and improved suspension system of LHB coaches ensures greater riding comfort for the passengers compared to conventional rakes.
