Mitali Chakravarty, fondly known as Mainu Ba to her loved ones, passed away on March 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and resilience. She was 61.
Born into a family of distinction, she was the daughter of the late Amulya Kumar Chakravarty, a revered administrator and man of letters, and Urmila Chakravarty, a woman of remarkable strength. Raised in an environment that valued integrity and wisdom, Mainu Ba embodied these virtues throughout her life.
A guiding presence to her cousins and a source of unwavering support to family and friends, she was cherished for her kind heart, strong will, and affable nature. Despite being diagnosed with a serious illness three years ago, she fought bravely, displaying immense strength and courage.
She shared a beautiful life with her husband, Aswini Bhinihi, a man of equal warmth and character, who sadly predeceased her in 2020. Together, they nurtured their sons, Papu and Piu, instilling in them values of compassion and responsibility.
Mainu Ba’s departure has left a void that can never be filled, but the love and wisdom she imparted will continue to inspire those who knew her. Her memory will forever remain a guiding light for her family and friends.
She is survived by her sons, extended family, and a host of loved ones who will miss her dearly.
