GUWAHATI: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Assam Police was able to arrest one person in connection with the recent death threat issued to the Assam Minister of Agriculture, Atul Bora. The Director General of Police, Assam, shared this information.
DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh informed that one Nip Pratim Baruah, aged 31 years, a resident of Bamun Moran Gaon under the Gaurisagar police station in Sivasagar district, was picked up for the Facebook post threatening the agriculture minister. He was later brought to Guwahati for further legal proceedings.
“Reference threat to Minister Sri Atul Bora on a Facebook post: Assam CID has been directed to register a criminal case and take lawful action. No such threat would be acceptable against elected representatives as it threatens the democratic polity,” DGP Gyanendra Pratap Singh had announced over X after the incident took place.
Following a death threat received over social media by the minister, Assam Police handed over the investigation of the matter to the Criminal Investigation Department on Tuesday, and the accused was arrested soon afterwards with respect to CID Cyber Police Station Case number 7/2023.
