One held for demanding bribe to fix an appointment with Assam CM

GUWAHATI: Sumit Deb, son of Anil Barun Deb of Games Village, lodged a written FIR at Dispur PS on Sunday night stating that one Bhupen Hazarika, an employee of the Excise Department, had demanded a bribe of Rs. 5000 for fixing an appointment with the Chief Minister. The accused had also got a Secretariat Pass issued from the office of a minister in this matter.

Hence, Dispur PS case no- 2860/2021, U/S - 384 IPC was registered and Bhupen Hazarika was apprehended and brought to the PS for interrogation. During preliminary investigation, ACP Dispur took the statement of the victim lady, who is a resident of Dibrugarh (over phone).

In her statement, the lady said that her husband, a fourth-grade employee of Town Planning Authority, Dibrugarh had not received his salary for the last 36 months. For this, the lady came to Guwahati to try and meet the Chief Minister. On August 3, she went to Janata Bhavan where she met a person called Bhupen Hazarika, who told her that he could arrange an appointment on August 4.

Accordingly, the next day she went Janata Bhavan and met Bhupen Hazarika, who took Rs 5,000 from her. Investigation in this regard is going on.
