GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (Metropolitan) district administration has fixed maximum price of onion at Rs 70 per kg in the city.

The price was fixed during a meeting between the metro administration and Food & Civil Supplies department held at the DC office of Kamrup (M) on Friday. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) district Bipul Kumar Das while speaking at the meeting said that even though the wholesale as well retail prices of onion are now declining, a section of unscrupulous traders are still charging the old inflated prices from customers.

“We are constantly monitoring the markets to prevent unscrupulous traders to take customers for a ride,” Das said. The officials of the metro administration on Thursday conducted a raid at Beltola market and found a section of traders selling onion at high prices. The administration then sold 200 kg onion from Beltola market through fair price shops. The administration will continue to conduct its drive at different markets in the coming days to prevent traders from charging exorbitant prices of onion.
