Panchayat and Rural Development Department to Provide Ex gratia of Rs 1,000 for needy

GUWHATI: The Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Department, Assam will provide ex gratia payment of Rs. 1000 to each member of economically poor in society. In view of the critical situation in the State due to the nationwide lockdown, the P&RD department has initiated this step to give a soccour to the poor families.

As per the order of the Chief Minister, the P&RD department will provide the ex gratia of Rs. 1,000 to each poor family through the 14th Finance Commission Grant.

The people who are not covered by the National Food Security Act will be selected as beneficiaries for this ex gratia. The Village Panchayat Councilors have been given the responsibility to select the beneficiaries.

As per the formula adopted, a total of 100 families will receive the aid in those village panchayat where there are 5000 people. Likewise 150 families in Panchayat having 5001 to 10,000 population and 200 families in Panchayat where there are over 10,000 population will get this ex gratia.

The department has further opened the Indira Mire Universal Widow Pension Scheme on April 3. Thus the widows will receive Rs. 300 per month. Four months’ advance pension from the month April to July has also been deposited in the bank accounts of a total of 1, 43,318 beneficiaries so that they can cope up with the current critical situation.
