GUWAHATI: The Directorate of Higher Education (DHE) had issued a Notification on February 19 this year regarding promotion of 594 Assistant Professors and Librarians of various provincialized colleges of the State under the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS), but it appears that the teachers and other staff concerned are yet to receive the enhanced salary due to them.
The DHE's Notification had stated the promotions had been awarded as per Government Office Memo and recommendations of the Screening Committee for CAS promotion at its meeting January 11 this year.
The promotions were of two categories – 278 Assistant Professors and Librarians were promoted from Stage I to Stage II and 316 Professors and Librarians were promoted from Stage II to Stage III. However, the DHE has not released the enhanced salaries even though four months have elapsed since the Notification was issued.
An Assistant Profession told The Sentinel on the condition of anonymity that the DHE had initially asked the college authorities concerned to submit relevant documents pertaining to the promoted Assistant Professors and Librarians. After that was done, the DHE asked AMTRON to prepare a web portal for settlement of the pending cases of pay fixation of the newly-promoted Assistant Professors and Librarians to the higher scale of pay. The web portal was also supposed to keep data on the due dates of promotion to different stages, including provision for calculation of arrear salary.
However, the work for pay fixation has not been completed till date and in consequence the newly-promoted Assistant Professors and Librarians are still awaiting the enhanced salaries.
