PCBA Serves Closure Notice To 16 Marriage Halls, 140 Others

GUWAHATI: The Pollution Control Board, Assam (PCBA) has served closure notices to 16 marriage halls and 140 other establishments in Kamrup (Metro) district for their failure to meet environmental norms set for them to follow. The development came following a directive issued by the Supreme Court of India. The apex court wants that all establishments like marriage halls, restaurants, hotels, hospitals including government hospitals, laboratories and others strictly adhere to environmental norms. According to sources, the reason behind the issuance of closure notices to the 16 marriage halls and the other establishments in the district is lack of ETPs (effluent treatment plants) on their respective premises. ETPs are mandatory for all industrial houses for the treatment of effluents at their sites itself.
