Guwahati: A massive pipeline burst in Kharguli during the early hours of Thursday has left 28 families homeless, causing widespread damage and triggering fears of potential landslides in the area.
The sudden surge of water flooded homes, swept away belongings, and forced residents to evacuate immediately. "We barely had time to grab essentials. The water came with such force that it destroyed everything in its path," said a resident, recalling the harrowing ordeal.
In response, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) has set up a relief camp at Lalsingh Academy to provide temporary shelter, food, and other essentials to the affected families.
An ASDMA official stated, "We are providing all necessary assistance. The situation is under control, and we are closely monitoring the area to address any further risks, including landslides."
Meanwhile, the incident has raised serious concerns about the safety and reliability of the region's infrastructure. Local residents have urged authorities to take immediate corrective measures to prevent such disasters in the future. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely as rehabilitation efforts for the displaced families are underway.
