GUWAHATI: On the fourth day of a plantation drive conducted by the Guwahati Range of the Forest Department under the Kamrup East Division, 50 seedlings of native species of trees were planted in the campus of the Narengi Government High School under the Narengi Forest Beat on Wednesday.

The event was conducted under the guidance of Sandeep Kumar, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Lower Assam Zone, Rohini Ballav Saikia, DFO, Kamrup East Division, Pratima Das Karjee, headmistress of the Narengi Government High School, Pranjal Baruah, RO, Guwahati and Narengi Beat officer Asim Das. Others present on the occasion included Forest Officer Pranjit Deka, Deputy Ranger Bidyot Das, Jintu Talukdar, Nirmal Deka, Himanshu Talukdar and the staff of the Guwahati Range.

The school authority has assigned three students to plant and protect each tree planted today. They will look after the seedlings under the guidance of local forest staff of the Narengi Beat. This is aimed to create awareness and conservation habits among the students to care trees, which provide several tangible and intangible benefits to human beings, said Sandeep Kumar said while addressing the gathering.

The plantation drive has been taken up as a part of the 20-point programme in which 3,000 seedlings will be raised in schools and colleges of Guwahati city.
