GUWAHATI: The Assam Student Organization on Tuesday submitted separate memoranda to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and State Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pijush Hazarika demanding 75 percent reservation of jobs in private sector establishments for local candidates domiciled in Assam.

The memoranda stated that states like Haryana, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh were taking certain steps to address the problem of unemployment in their respective states by bringing in laws to reserve employment for local people in the private sector, including industries, factories, etc.

"The Haryana government has passed the Haryana State Employment of Candidates Act, 2020 to provide 75 per cent employment to local candidates who are domiciled in the state of Haryana," stated the memoranda.

"Similarly, the Andhra Pradesh government has also passed the Andhra Pradesh Employment of Local Candidates in the Industries/Factories Act, 2019, to provide 75 per cent of employment to local candidates in in industries and factories in the state of Andhra Pradesh."

The Assam Student Organization, therefore, has urged the Assam Government to solve the umemployment of the State, especially among the educated youths, by introducing similar laws in the State and reserving 75 per cent of employment in companies, firms, societies, industries and factories etc. for local candidates who are domiciled in Assam.
